Our History
Our history stretches back almost a century and encompasses three generations of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) knowledge and clinical practice experiences. As Chinese medicine practitioners, Wong Chun-wai and Wong Sin-kun have successfully treated generations of patients and gained wide recognition for their expertise in the field of TCM. Over the years, the father-son duo developed and clinically refined a number of proprietary Chinese medicines and health supplements under the Keystar Therapeutics brand. Now Wong Yan-yan, the daughter of Wong Sin-kun, joins the ranks of Chinese medicine practitioners and marks the beginning of the third generation of TCM expertise in the family and its business.
1930
Wong Chun-wai graduated from Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (formerly known as Guangdong Chinese Medicine Specialty School) and joined the Kiang Wu Hospital in Macau as a Chinese medicine practitioner.
1950
The Bao’an County People’s Hospital was established. Wong Chun-wai was appointed as a Chinese medicine practitioner at the hospital as well as a people’s representative and committee member to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Congress.
1955
Wong Chun-wai was in charged of Chinese medicine mentorship programs where he successfully trained numerous classes of Chinese medicine practitioners, many of whom have become famous doctors in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
1965
Wong Chun-wai undertook extensive research into the integration of Chinese and Western medicines, which has been widely recognized and praised by the Chinese and Western medical fields.
1975
Wong Chun-wai was actively involved in the establishment of the Shenzhen TCM Hospital (formerly Bao'an Yun Hospital) in Shenzhen, China.
1976
After four years of apprenticeship as a trainee practitioner, Wong Chun-wai’s son, Wong Sin-kun, became a registered Chinese medicine practitioner and began his career at the Shenzhen TCM Hospital his father helped establish.
1983
Wong Chun-wai and Wong Sin-kun established Lucky Star Medicine, a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, in Sheung Shui, Hong Kong. Two years later, the father-son duo established their second Lucky Star Medicine clinic in Yuen Long, Hong Kong.
1989
After years of development, Keystar’s Soup series was born. There were 22 different pre-packaged therapeutic herbal soups for individuals concerned about their health.
1992
Wong Chun-wai and Wong Sin-kun founded Keystar Therapeutics (originally Keystar Medicine Company) to develop and produce proprietary Chinese medicines and health supplements in Yuen Long, Hong Kong. Combining their clinical research and experiences, the father-son duo developed the health strengthening pills as well as body cleansing herbal powder, Magee®.
2003
The mandatory registration of proprietary Chinese medicines came into effect in Hong Kong. Keystar Therapeutics welcomed the new regulations with its new logo and product packaging.
2005
Wong Sin-kun established Jun Shan Care, his third traditional Chinese medicine clinic, in Tai Po, Hong Kong. Keystar Therapeutics began development of functional foods to complement modern lifestyles.
2010
Keystar Therapeutics took part in the International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) as well as the Natural Products Expo Asia in Hong Kong.
2011
Keystar Therapeutics moved into a new factory located in Tai Po, Hong Kong. Upon successful inspection and approval by the Department of Health, Keystar Therapeutics received certification to manufacture proprietary Chinese medicines at the new factory.
2014
Wong Sin-kun’s daughter, Wong Yan-yan, registered as a Chinese medicine practitioner in Hong Kong after acquiring a Master’s Degree in Chinese Medicine from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
2017
Wong Yan-yan received her PhD Degree in Medicine from the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, the same university from which her grandfather, Wong Chun-wai, graduated in 1930.
2018
Wong Sin-kun and Wong Yan-yan established their second Jun Shan Care clinic in Central, Hong Kong, alongside their first clinic in Tai Po, Hong Kong. In additional to medical consultations, Keystar Therapeutics' full range of products are also on display for purchase in both Jun Shan Care clinics.
2019
A new food factory was added to Keystar Therapeutics' existing factory in Tai Po, Hong Kong. Certified by the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), this food factory is where functional foods and confectioneries are developed and produced for healthy living.
